photos

September 13th, 2008

so I had a little thing happen… last year, I took some photos of some really great and beautiful people’s wedding, got some really good shots I think, actually I know I got some really great shots, as a matter of fact. Anyway, a really really sad thing happened, one of the really special people involved in that shoot, who is and was beloved by all and many, passed on to another place.  So a really great mag posted a version of a photo that I took of the person on their online site, and the pic was a no bueno version.  So I contacted them and sent the orginal and good photo and it all worked out just fine.  The publisher and editor were really responsive and uber great to communicate with me and update the site.

And then I was thinking about how a couple days ago I had lunch with my friend D in Santa Monica and we both watched a guy sit outside who looked a little interesting, my antennae was up…then I saw him pull with a NICE Canon camera with a 300MM lens and shoot Hillary Duff who was walking by the restaurant.

Anyway…it really got me to thinking about the whole idea of privacy and respect.  We all have all these digital photos out there everywhere on the net, some people are trying to make coin for them, some people are just putting them up so that family and friends can share them. Where do we draw the line between sharing photos of weddings, birthdays, family occassions, or publishing our latest accomplishments…..or using that medium for less than happy purposes? If it’s up on the net then anyone can grab it and comment and it goes from there….I wonder if that is always such a good thing…?
